Meet Fauzia Taylor. “I think iconic for me is representation. Representation of something that you feel so strongly about. And for me, I feel very strongly about my grey hair…” #CapCut

#CheekboneBeauty’s Jenn Harper believes that representation doesn't just matter, it saves lives. ❤️
Girl-bossed so hard we ended up at @sephoracanada. Cheekbone Beauty is the first Indigenous-owned colour cosmetics brand carried by a global beauty retailer like Sephora. Proof that representation, resilience, and a whole lot of heart can take you anywhere. #IndigenousOwned #SephoraCanada #smallbusiness #BeautyFounder #BIPOC
Much of our business and our people are situated on the unceded territory of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People. We are committed to creating a world of Belonging and to do so, we must recognise the history of colonialism in Canada, and the continuing impacts on First Peoples. This year, we’ve made a meaningful step in our journey - our first Reconciliation Action Plan. Developed in consultation with Indigenous Peoples and Communities and in partnership with Creative Fire Canada , our plan outlines our commitment to deepen our relationships with First Peoples through: 🧡 Intentional year-round learning and cultural awareness education, in partnership with Indigenous providers. 🧡 Building deeper relationships with Indigenous-led organisations and businesses. 🧡 Increasing representation of Indigenous practises and people in our business. Over the last year, we have continued to support Indigenous Communities, giving over $160K (CAD). We reconnected with IRSSSBC to support their barrier-free access to culturally grounded support for survivors & families impacted by Residential Schools. We’re also supporting Creative Fire Canada and Actua’s Indigenous Youth in STEM program, which is guided by Actua’s Indigenous leadership team. Reconciliation is a journey, and it requires more than words and commitments. It requires action. We look forward to sharing our full Reconciliation Action Plan with you soon, and will keep you up to date on our progress.
The Cocoa Butter Club was founded in 2016 as a “creative clap-back” to the lack of representation that founder Sadie saw in the industry. They are one of 6 Queer organisations that we’ve supported this year, through our Proudly Pro-You brand cause platform. They are creating safe places & spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community to be PROUD and live PROUDLY. #nyxcosmetics_uk #ProudlyProYou ✨
“The content of our shows is going to look different, because artists create from their lived experience” 🏳️🌈✨ Meet founder Sadie and performers Mimi, Mr Blaque, Ezme and Donna, of @thecocoabutterclub. They are an award-winning burlesque and cabaret company founded in the face of a lack of representation in the industry. They are creating a safe space, on and off the stage, for queer people and queer people of colour to see themselves and be seen. We’re PROUD to be supporting this organisation and spotlighting their story this year, as part of our content series amplifying Queer Community Leaders and their organisations. These organisations share our commitment to creating places & spaces that encourage the LGBTQIA+ community to live PROUDLY PRO-YOU. #nyxcosmetics_uk #ProudlyProYou ✨
